Friday Night Lights!

It's officially fall, and for many people that means...football season!  While some are prepping the snacks and settling in on the couch to watch their favorite pro or college teams, there's additional fun to be had at your local high school if you're craving the sights and sounds of a live game-- and for just a fraction of the price.  High school games are also largely family-friendly (maybe watch the language of over-zealous fans around you), and full of a healthy dose of school rivalry.  Not your alma mater?  No worries!  Pick a team to champion and have a little fun with it.
Friday night high school football games pack in the excitement of band, pom and cheer lines, and dedicated athletes into an experience that can be enjoyed by just about everyone.  Nothing quite brings you back to your youth like munching on (sometimes stale) concessions, listening to teenage gossip, and shouting at the refs (where on earth do they get all of those yellow flags, and where's the instant replay???).
Pro tip: Bring binoculars to get even closer to the action!  (Or, in our case, to identify our child...Shh!  They all look the same in their uniforms!).
Like things loud?  Sit next to the band for some added excitement and energy!  (Don't like things loud?  Umm...maybe move over a section or two!).
The students work throughout the year to put together their halftime show, and it's worth taking the time to watch their efforts.   These shows have definitely evolved from "back in the day" and are enhanced by the performance of the color guard.  Different schools have different sized bands, but they all showcase incredibly dedicated students.
Whether its a close game throughout or a total blow-out, it's easy to appreciate the passion in these student athletes as they represent their teams and play their hearts out.  All in all, Friday Night Lights give community members the opportunity to enjoy the cooler evening temperatures and support their local schools, and maybe even re-live a few moments of their glory days while they're at it!
