Know Your Neighbors - Part 2

As Realtors, we frequently get asked for more "detailed" information about the neighborhoods our clients are interested in.  It's easy to point out the available and obvious amenities in the area-- grocery stores, doctor offices, schools, places of worship, and the like-- but our clients are usually talking about those details that can't be seen during a mid-day tour.  Exactly who are the people in their neighborhood?
The short answer is that there are lots of types of people in lots of different places...and we, ourselves, can't answer that question for you.  Why? Because we care.  We care about our clients and we care about our fellow Tucson residents.  Not only does demographic information change faster than we could begin to keep up with, but we can't steer clients towards or away from different neighborhoods, and we must present all properties in an unbiased manner. What we CAN do, is point you to some helpful resources and encourage you to do your research.  What works for one person or family may not be comfortable for another.  It's really a matter of personal choice and priorities.

DEMOGRAPHICS

This resource is not neighborhood-specific, but covers all of Tucson.  It includes general data on Tucson and its current residents, including average age, income, population growth, etc.

CRIME RATE

There are lots of websites that will help you determine crime rate in an area.  One helpful resource is this map provided by the City of Tucson Police Department:

Updated daily, this map shows police activity around town.  It doesn't claim that any one area is better or safer than the next-- but it does show you recent activity that you might want to make yourself aware of.

If you use a search engine and type in "Tucson Crime Rates," you can find similar maps that span longer periods of time.  This may show trends or more or less activity in certain areas.

REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS

It's not a pretty topic, but it is information that is out there for your knowledge, as well:

The bottom line is that only you can determine whether a neighborhood (and its included neighbors) are a good fit for you.  We recommend driving neighborhoods that you are interested in at night and during different parts of the day to get a feel for whether they would be a good match.  You want to make sure that you are comfortable in your new home for years to come!
