A Realtor is Like an Ice Scraper...
John had this awesome idea about a month ago. We were trying to think of a fun, yet useful, little gift to give our past and future clients. We had a million thoughts, of course, but I knew from the gleam in John's eye exactly when he discovered what he was looking for-- ice scrapers!
As someone who parks outside the garage, this was a gift I was totally on board with. Granted, it wasn't something that I needed to use daily, but when things got a bit frosty in the wee hours of the morning--especially when I was hurrying to get the kids to school and get to work--this handy little tool was invaluable. The question being, in our warm desert city, was whether this was a gift that our clients would understand or appreciate? Did something that wasn't used everyday still have value?
We decided to just go for it! Our rationale? We realized that Realtors were very much like ice scrapers. Honestly, most people don't give us a second thought unless they have a use for one. When we do need a Realtor (or an ice scraper!), though, it is the best feeling in the world to be able to reach out and have a trusted and reliable one nearby (like us!). So we began to hand out our little gifts...
We got some mixed reactions along the way-- everything from sincere gratitude (did I mention that these little guys fit perfectly in your glovebox?) to a bit of teasing ("The day I have to use an ice scraper in Tucson is the day I pack up for Hawaii!"). Then Tucson decided to have a little fun...
It was a forecast I have never seen on my phone's weather app. I had to take a screenshot (okay, let's be honest, I took several). Everyone in our family became instant weathermen. We glanced outside, we gauged the humidity, we checked to see whether we had any plants that needed covering. Were the clouds getting closer? Was it getting colder? Was the storm system just going to pass us by? Our kids had been to play in the snow, but had never had the opportunity to see the snow actually falling. We came up with a plan--I literally set my alarm for every hour throughout the night to check to see if it was snowing. John was dancing with glee! Visions of icy windshields in need of scraping danced in his head!
Woo hoo! Mission accomplished! The snow hit our house at 4:00 AM (yes, we actually woke up to play in it!) and was still giving us a light dusting later this morning.
The best part? We got to use our ice scraper! We hope you got to use yours, too! Don't have your very own Smith and Smith Team - Long Realty ice scraper, yet? Reach out and we'll get one to you, pronto (just like we'll be here for you if you have any real estate needs!).
In the meantime, stay warm! We're expecting more snowy/icy weather tonight. And yes, our alarm is still set for every hour in hopes to see more snow fall. What can we say? When Tucson gives us the gift of winter weather, we take some time to enjoy the novelty of it!
